Az's Movie Review Section 2003

The Core
Seen in April in the USA. All initial thoughts and most subsequential thoughts is that this is a re-make of Independence day, yet the centre of the Earth is the problem, not a bunch of faceless aliens.

Identity
This murderous suspenseful film, was seen in the USA in April. Was actually surprisingly good. Although there were clues as to where the film was going all the way along, the main plot twist was a welcome surprise. Favourite film of the year so far (til the end of May at least)

X-Men 2
Very good film in my opinion, better than I was expecting and I remember liking this one better than I liked the original.

Phone Booth
Interesting film that could quite easily have taken place on a stage with no scene changes. With a tiny amount of introduction, all the action centered upon a phone booth. The film was interesting and different and clever. But not amazingly memorable.

Darkness Falls
A film made to try and scare you off your chair and to be fair it does what it intends to. However the plot is nothing exciting and is a tad predictable.

Matrix Reloaded
Seen in Colchester Odeon. This was the kind of thing that I expected. Lots of cool Matrix Special effects. Enjoyed the action scenes, confused a lil by the slower scenes. All will make sense in the final Matrix film I'm sure. Preview of the final film after the longest set of credits I've ever sat through.

Dirty Deeds
Seen in UGC Leicester Square.  Watchable, but far from thrilling Australian gangster type film.  I spent far too much time not getting what was going on.

Bruce Almighty
The first film I've seen in Romford this year.  I liked this film, it didn't take itself too seriously and set about being silly and amusing.  It succeeded for me and it was exactly the film I was looking for when I entered the cinema.  The people with me weren't as thrilled as I was, but hey, I don't care.  I enjoyed it.

Charlie's Angels 2
Woah!  This film made me feel like I was having a sugar rush.  Very bright, colourful and
unbelievable.  It took a while to get into the movie as it was that silly, like James Bond and then some in the action sequences, but all in all worth a giggle.

Terminator 3
Possibly the biggest name sequel of the summer for me, I was always going to see a Terminator film.  I was disappointed to hear that James Cameron didn't direct the film.  The film had all the amazing effects you would expect from a Terminator film and plenty of amusing lines.  The film shows there was never meant to be three installments.  This plot didn't quite do what Terminator 2 did for me.  A great film nonetheless.  I enjoyed it :)

American Pie 3
Yet another sequel. Thoroughly disgusting and quite a lot of fun to be fair, they didn't concentrate on the wedding aspect of the film, something that I am very grateful for with my personal situation.  Gross out, gigglefest.  How's that for a quote?

Pirates of the Caribbean
A film that isn't a sequel!  This film was alright, I didn't enjoy it as much as the others I was with.  the plot offered nothing particularly exciting.  the effects were good, but overall the film was a little too long and offered too little a punch to be at all memorable in my humble opinion.

Finding Nemo
A Pixar film which means that it is a great film.  Not quite up to the standard of the Toy Story films, but that would be an enormous target to aim for.  A fantastically watchable film if you want to let your inner child out.

Matrix Revolutions
A fantastic looking film and technically perfect and I enjoyed the film at the time but left feeling a little disappointed, like it should have gone out with a bang. The first Matrix film was revolutionary, a truly classic film and the second film had the interstate sequence. What did the third one have? I'm not sure.

SWAT
The film started excellently in fact the whole film was very enjoyable.  I was a little disappointed that for the final scenes I had to put my "James Bond that is a bit far fetched hat" on, but that was the price we paid for some cool explosions and stuff at the end.  Good film, nearly great.
