Az's Movie Review Section 2007
Spider-Man
3
The first real
blockbuster of the year is the first film seen at the cinema by myself this year
(in May). The first film in the trilogy was pretty good and the second one
was awful in my humble opinion. I was expecting the third to be firmly
between the two. The film was better than I was expecting it to be with
plenty of laughs and action and whilst the plotline had many elements to it, it
didn't become too complicated at any time. Not the best film I have ever
seen but far from the worst!
Pirates
of the Caribbean : At Worlds End
The latest installment of the film that was inspired by the ride at Disney World
(rather than the ride being inspired by the film). This is the third in
the series, I don't say trilogy as the door is left wide open for more at some
point. Maybe the film is a little too long, maybe it is a little too
complex but it wasn't bad and peppered with humorous parts which helped it
along.
Shrek
The Third
The third Shrek film is as good as the second one, which in turn was
not as good as the first. Maybe the film has too many sidekicks now and
too many characters to fit in and that is before adding new ones. may be
the story is not quite as strong and loses focus. Don't get me wrong I
really liked this film but the magic of the first one just isn't there any more.
Die
Hard 4.0
If I was rating this film purely on beliveability, this film would
get a zero out of ten but as an all round entertainer this is as good as any of
the Die Hard's, maybe even the best. This film sees a lot more action than
the earlier ones. I liked this film immensely from start to finish.
Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The fifth Harry Potter film delivers the best of the book in a great action
adventure. Obviously parts of the book were missing, like in previous
films there was no way you could have fit the entirety of the longest book into
a few mere hours although some I'm sure would prefer that they had. I
liked the film a lot, maybe Sirius's death was a little disappointing but no
complaints from me otherwise.
The
Simpsons Movie
Full of great gags including the scene with Bart on the skateboard which was
hilarious, it was just unfortunate that the overall story was missing
something. Don't get me wrong this wasn't a bad film it just didn't kick
ass in the same way the South Park movie did for example.
Ratatouille
Yet another brilliant Pixar film. The story was good, the
animation superb and was a great all round film deserving of the Pixar name,
however Cars still edges it for me I'm afraid, although this may well come in
second.
